Legislative Update from Bryan Holloway
Received December 10, 2019
We hope everyone is happily preparing for the holiday season and getting students ready for exams at the first of the year.
When we last left off, legislators adjourned until January 14th, 2020, still without a conclusion to the budget. This has left us without our priorities, pay increases, and with uncertainty about local budgets. Both the legislature and the governor’s office have reached out to us to inquire about what teachers are saying. We continue to advocate for this budget impasse to end and for state leaders to let educators know where they stand. We remain hopeful that the fight will close early in 2020.
In the meantime, we hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season. We will be reporting back at the first of the year, and hopefully with good news. We will also try to forecast what the short session will look like in the coming year, but the long session will have to end first.
